NORMAN, Okla. – The Barry University men’s golf team placed two team members on the Ping/NGCA Division II All-Region Team. Sophomores Victor Billskoog (Miami, Fla.) and Carlos Velez (Miami, Fla.) were named to the All-South Region team.
Billskoog played 10 rounds this season for the Bucs and average 73.76 strokes per round to lead the Buccaneers and posted three top-10 finishes including a fifth-place finish at the Coker Invitational. Prior to a redshirt year in 2007, Billskoog was picked as the Sunshine State Conference Freshman of the Year.
Velez played an integral role in the Bucs winning the 2007 NCAA Division II National Championship as a freshman and was second on the team this season with a 74.22 stroke average through 11 rounds. He also posted three top-10 finishes this season including a season-best fifth-place finish at the NSU Sharks Invitational.
Division II PING All-Region teams have been announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America. PING All-Region teams are selected based on outstanding season play. The 10 All-Region teams consist of a 10 players and are selected by GCAA all-region committees. Any player ranked in the top 50 of the final Golfstat individual ranking is automatically added to his all-region team Members of the PING All-Region teams are eligible for PING All-America honors.
