NOTRE DAME, Ind.—Senior outfielder Andrew Frezza earned a spot on the first team of the 2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® Baseball Teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Frezza led the Buccaneers to a 32-19 mark, hitting .392 with 61 runs scored and 58 RBI, good for second on the team in all three categories and led the team in stolen bases (15-of-20). He led the team to an 131-84-3 mark over his career.

Frezza graduated summa cum laude from the honors program in May. He finished with a 3.878 GPA in management from Barry’s Andreas School of Business. He is the Buccaneers’ first baseball Academic All-American since Chris Neill and Kevin Schapley in 1995 and gives Barry a total of 34 in all sports.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program’s inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports.
