LAKELAND, Fla.—Three Barry Buccaneers landed on the 2009 Daktronics, Inc., All-America Baseball team.
Third baseman Yan Gomes made first-team, while shortstop Nick Shaw and starting pitcher Charley Short each found their names on the Third-Team.
Gomes led the Buccaneers with a .405 average and 92 RBI, while belting 21 home runs. The Tennessee transfer is third in the country in RBI and seventh in home runs. He has set school single season records with 92 RBI and 172 total bases and tied the mark for sacrifice flies with eight. Additionally, he ranks second all-time in batting average, hits, slugging percentage, runs, and home runs.
Shaw, who earned honorable mention All-America last season, finished again as the team leader in walks and currently holds the all-time school mark for walks in a career with 166. He has set career highs in runs scored (66), doubles (17), homers (4), RBI (40) and slugging percentage (.525). Additionally, he has committed only nine errors, a career-low, while making 160 assists, a career-high.
Short has been the foundation of the rotation this season, leading the team with an 11-3 record and 76.1 innings pitched. He has tied the mark of 11 wins in a season set by Oscar Farach in 2001, while posting a 3.66 ERA.

In addition to these honors, Gomes was also named to the first-team American Baseball Coaches Association All-South Region Team Wednesday, May, 27. Gomes and Lynn's Dan Wright were the only two SSC representatives to make the first-team on the list.
Gomes and first baseman Yudelmis Hernandez were both named to the First-Team National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association All-South Region Team announced on Wednesday, May 27.
Gomes was also named the NCBWA South Region Player of the Year, as pitcher Charley Short and outfielder Yas Gutierrez were named to the All-South Region Second Team.
Gomes and Hernandez then moved on to the NCBWA All-America ballot in which Gomes was selected to the first-team, while Hernandez garnered honorable mention.
