The Theatre program at Barry University combines classroom exploration with innovative studio work. The program provokes creative discovery through a curriculum centered in acting, improvisation, voice, movement, script analysis and an array of hands-on workshops in on-camera acting techniques, directing, one-person show creation, stagecraft, and design. The program’s small class sizes offer unique opportunities for students to cultivate their individual talents and interests. This flexible approach ensures students develop both the technical skills and personal creativity needed to be successful in the professional world.

The program prioritizes practical experience, offering a diverse and thought-provoking season of performance and production opportunities. Students majoring or minoring in Theatre participate in professional-level productions in the historic Broad Theater and distinctive outdoor amphitheater. They also have the opportunity to engage in a variety of studio productions and student-led projects in the Pelican Black Box Theater.

B.A. in Theatre:

• Apply to the university and select the B.A. Theatre program.
• Students admitted to the B.A. program may audition for the B.F.A. program after their first or second Fall semester.

B.F.A. in Theatre (Incoming Applicants):

• Apply to the university and schedule an on-campus audition or portfolio review. (Virtual options are available for out-of-state applicants.)

B.F.A. Audition Criteria:

• Prepare two contrasting monologues, each not exceeding 90 seconds.

B.F.A. Portfolio Review Criteria:

• Portfolios may include:
  • Drawings, renderings, paintings, photography, process notes.
  • A catalog of finalized works, as well as design concepts for unrealized productions.
