Message from the Interim Dean

Welcome to the School of Human Performance and Leisure Sciences (HPLS). Barry University is a Catholic institution of higher education founded in 1940 by the Adrian Dominican Sisters.  Catholic intellectual and religious traditions guide us in the fulfillment of our mission. The mission and values of the Adrian Dominican Sisters serve as the inspiration for our core commitments:  Knowledge & Truth, Inclusive Community, Social Justice, and Collaborative Service.

The School of Human Performance and Leisure Sciences devotes itself to educating students for personal and social responsibility and enhancing their lives and success by providing a high-quality education that will enable them to become competent, thoughtful, ethical, and compassionate citizens and professionals.  This is accomplished by providing varied educational experiences through three distinct units, Sport and Exercise Sciences, Intercollegiate Athletics, and Campus Recreation & Wellness. We are unique in fulfilling the highest academic standards of undergraduate, graduate and professional education in the university's mission by engaging all four learning domains (i.e., cognitive, affective, psychomotor, and social) in the delivery of its many participation opportunities to fulfill our mission.

I encourage and invite you to meet with us personally.  I assure you that your visit will be welcomed warmly by our faculty, staff, and coaches. Only by meeting all of us will you know that Barry is where you belong!
