Unlock Breakthroughs with a Minor in Biology

Biology, the science of life, spans the study of microscopic workings of cells in animals and plants to safeguarding ecosystems and natural resources, and even advancing medical research. With a Biology Minor from Barry University, you'll explore biological principles more deeply and expand your knowledge base.

Our Biology Minor equips you with essential skills in critical thinking, hypothesis testing, experimental design, and data analysis, along with hands-on expertise in laboratory and fieldwork. You’ll also navigate scientific literature and get exposed to cutting-edge research methods through experiential, real-world learning opportunities.

This complement to your major will help prepare you for countless career paths—from healthcare and environmental science to conservation and government. Additionally, you’ll be well-positioned to pursue advanced degrees in multiple areas including education, medicine, the sciences, law, public policy, among others.

The Biology Minor requires a total of 20 credits in Biology courses and must include General Biology I with lab.

Requirements:

  • General Biology I with lab (4 credits), plus 16 additional Biology credits.
  • The 16 additional credits must include at least one more Biology laboratory course.
  • One upper-level course is strongly recommended.
  • Courses that do not count towards the major do not count towards the minor either.
  • A minimum of eleven credits must be taken at Barry University.
