Curriculum

Bachelor of Public Administration (45 credits total)

Public Administration Required Core Courses (30 credits total)

  • PUB 301 Principles of Public Administration (if possible, should be taken in 1st term)
  • PUB 302 Values and Ethics in Public Administration
  • PUB 310 Research Methods & Techniques in Public Administration
  • PUB 403 Public Budgeting & Finance
  • PUB 404 Concepts & Issues in Public Planning
  • PUB 405 Administrative Law and Process
  • PUB 406 Human Resources in the Public Sector
  • PUB 407 Productivity Improvements in the Public Sector
  • PUB 408 Public Management and the Political Process
  • PUB 499 Public Administration Capstone Project (if possible, should be taken in last term)

Electives (15 credit hours)

  • Any five from OGL and EMA prefix courses.  PUB 409 and POS 303 also count as electives.   

Specialization Option (9 credit hours – part of the 15 elective credit hours)

BPA students may earn a Specialization in either Organizational Learning or Emergency Management.  Students must inform their advisor of intent to pursue either an OGL or EMA Specialization.

BPA with a Specialization in Organizational Learning (required courses)

  • OGL 303: Level up your Leadership
  • OGL 353: Leadership Theories and Practices
  • OGL 414: Leading Change

BPA with a Specialization in Emergency Management (required courses)

  • EMA 205 (3) Overview of Disasters and Complex Emergencies
  • EMA 305 (3) Principles of Emergency Management
  • EMA 307 (3) Business Continuity and Crisis Management

Distribution Courses (45 credits)

You must complete 9 credits in each of the following categories:

  • Theology and Philosophy
  • Written and Oral Communication
  • Science and Mathematics
  • Social and Behavioral Sciences
  • Humanities and the Arts

Optional Portfolio Program (Can earn up to 30 credits)

Students pursuing the Bachelors of Public Administration program may submit the Experiential Portfolio. See your Advisor for more details.
