  • Transcripts: International credentials from an educational system other than the United States must be evaluated by a foreign credential evaluator who is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES). The evaluation must be “course-by-course with GPA,” and should be sent directly from the evaluating agency to Barry University.

Although you may use any NACES member agency, these two agencies provide a specific application designed for Barry students:

  • English Proficiency: Applicants who do not give evidence of being native English speakers, including those applying for transfer from U.S. institutions, or who have not graduated from an institution where English is the primary language of instruction must submit an IELTS or TOEFL score.

If you submit the IELTS results, Barry University requires a band score of 6.5 or higher. There are two versions of the TOEFL:

    • The paper-based test score ranges from 310 to 677. Barry University requires 550 or higher at the graduate level.
    • The Internet-based test (iBT) score ranges from 0 to 120. Barry University requires require 79 or higher at the graduate level.

The minimum acceptable score may be higher for some programs. The IELTS/TOEFL requirement may be waived for applicants with a minimum of 24 college-level academic credits earned from an institution in which English is the basis of instruction and classroom interaction or for those who graduate from level 112 of an ELS Language Centers program.

For further information on either of these tests, refer to www.ielts.org or www.toefl.org.

Deadlines

Each year the program is limited to a maximum of 15 new students. We encourage applicants to apply early. Once the quota is met, students will be placed on a wait list or carried over to the following year. Students are encouraged to apply for the fall semester since course rotations are based largely on a cohort basis beginning in the fall. Applications will not be reviewed until all required documents have been submitted.

Fall Admission: February 1

Please allow 4-6 weeks from the deadline for a notification on acceptance.

Spring Admission: November 1

Spring enrollment is based on changes in program enrollment from the fall. Spring enrollment is offered only if placements become available.

Decisions

Our Admissions Committee strives to evaluate complete applications within four to six weeks once all application documentation is received. Please note, the committee does not evaluate incomplete applications. Admissions decisions are based primarily on an evaluation of your previous undergraduate coursework, written personal statement, and letters of reference.

Applicants could be required to attend a personal interview arranged with the program coordinator and/or department chair if requested by the program coordinator prior to admission or obtaining "degree seeking" status.
