At the conclusion of the workshop, the Physicians will be able to
- Demonstrate proficiency in current diversity-related research in the medical profession
- Distinguish between cultural competence and cultural humility in self and others.
- Increase the knowledge and skills of the podiatric physicians to engage with each other effectively, creating a workplace of respect guided by the principles of cultural humility
- Understand the sociocultural and historical factors impacting the students and clients served in the classroom, clinical and medical settings.
- Ensure the clinical physicians have the knowledge and skills to engage patients, demonstrating respect and understanding of the culture, language, religious beliefs, and historical trauma experienced by Black and Brown patients.
- Ensure that the faculty, staff, and students understand the various microaggressions and how they may negatively impact relationships in professional settings.
- Create case studies and syllabi that will provide others with knowledge of one's possible implicit biases and develop skills to overcome them.
- Ensure follow-up training is available at all service delivery points for the continued provision of inclusive excellence.
Accreditation
Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine is approved by the Council on Podiatric Medical Education as a provider of continuing education in podiatric medicine. Barry University has approved the Clinical Physician Workshop for a maximum of 5 continuing education contact hours to licensed Podiatrists.

The United Way’s Health Impact Council set aside one-time funding to better position nonprofit organizations to play a more active, meaningful, or effective role in addressing racial health disparities in our community. Barry University Office of Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (J.E.D.I.) has been awarded this one-time funding to build organizational capacity and/or competencies in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. J.E.D.I. will utilize this funding to provide training in two parts for our School of Podiatric Medicine.
Certificate of Completion
Approximately two weeks following the seminar, you will receive a certificate of attendance via e-mail.
