Center for Human Rights and Social Justice Community Advocates Leadership Program

Community Advocates Leadership Program

As part of the Barry Service Corps—under the Center for Community Service Initiatives (CCSI)—this federal work study program fosters civic leadership and commitment to service by providing meaningful opportunities for students to support local agencies and institutions working to address social concerns. Through the Community Advocate Leadership Program, student leaders are offered transformative professional development trainings and leadership development opportunities that expand their college experience. Students excel in leadership positions within the University, and coordinate and implemented events and programs aligned with our vision to strive for social justice and human rights by creating inclusive communities and partnerships.

"Barry University CHRSJ has opened its doors to me as an out, Hispanic, transgender woman. The university has been a home for me to thrive in and expand who I am as an individual and as a student. How awesome to be represented, respected, and embraced in a Catholic University" - Aiyana Angeni Gonzalez, BSW Student
