This 2-hour webinar will offer evidence for a framework for practice and policies that ensure coordination and cooperation between social workers and police officers to protect victims of domestic violence.

About the Speaker

Dr. Michael J. Alicea

Dr. Michael J. Alicea is a retired Police Sergeant with over 37 years of experience in the law enforcement profession. He also has over 27 years of clinical practice experience in both the public and private sector and has been a Medical/Case Management Social Worker with a regionally recognizes hospital network in the South Florida area for over 19 years. He joined the Barry University School of Social Work as an Adjunct Professor in 2014 and became part of the full-time faculty as an Assistant Professor in 2020. He has been an Adjunct Faculty Professor at the University of Miami and Miami Dade College with over 24 years of teaching experience both in the undergraduate and graduate program of the School of Education and Social Science Departments. He has 10 years of experience presenting at local, state, and national conferences on over 50 topics and subjects related to diversity, suicide awareness and prevention and has published multiple articles in peer-reviewed journals, as well as authored and published about suicide in the law enforcement community. He has been a guest consultant with a local syndicated TV and cable networks with both Univision Channel 23 and with the Coral Gables Network Television Broadcast Station. He is an Honorably Discharged U.S. Coast Guard Reserve Veteran with 8 years of service (Gulf War Theater of Operations).
