The Honors Program at Barry is designed to challenge, enrich, and prepare especially motivated students to pursue their fullest potential. By participating in a rigorous curriculum rounded out by an array of edifying and interactive events, students explore crucial issues that we face in our daily lives. Students are given the space for discussion and debate and the opportunity to learn from experts in their fields. The Office of Financial Aid can assist with determining eligibility for the Honors Program.

The Monsignor William Barry Memorial Library is located in the center of the beautiful Miami Shores campus of Barry University. The Library is named in loving memory of Monsignor William Barry, one of the founders of Barry University and an inspirational figure in the Catholic Church within the Archdiocese of Miami. The extensive Library research collections include more than 950,000 physical items, over 40,000 print and on-line journal subscriptions, and several thousand on-line books and streaming video resources.

Distance Education

We are an NCAA Division II school and a member of the Sunshine State Conference with 12 varsity teams, including men's baseball, basketball, golf, soccer and tennis; and women's basketball, golf, rowing, soccer, softball, tennis and volleyball. So far, we've won 24 NCAA championships, had 338 All-Americans, 413 Scholar All-Americans, and nine NCAA "Women of the Year" finalists, the most of any Division II school. Not bad at all, but we're going for more.

Webinar Translating Trauma-Informed Care Principles Into Practice With LGBTQ+ Clients Barry University Department of Social Work is offering a 3 hour webinar that will describe how to apply TIC when working with LGBTQ+ populations.

Participants will learn about the effects of trauma on psychosocial development, identity, coping, and functioning. Participants will be introduced to SAMHSA’s guiding principles of TIC. Mental health practitioners and social service professionals will learn to view LGBTQ+ presenting problems through the lens of trauma and implement specific practical skills and trauma-informed practices across a variety of roles when working with LGBTQ+. Participants will learn about the identity-specific issues including minority stressors and experiences of gender dysphoria can be traumagenic for LGBTQ+ clients. Trauma informed strategies for supporting and affirming LGBTQ+ clients’ identities, experiences, and clinical needs will be explored.

This course meets criteria for required Ethics CEUS for FS ch. 491 licensees.

Dr. Jill Levenson

Dr. Jill Levenson

Dr. Jill Levenson is a Professor of Social Work at Barry University in Miami, FL. She is a SAMHSA-trained trauma-informed care instructor, and Lead Coordinator for the Trauma-informed Training Initiative at Barry’s Center for Human Rights & Social Justice. She has published 5 books and over 100 articles, and has been an active LCSW practitioner in South Florida for over 30 years. She has provided TIC trainings in more than 20 states, Canada, Mexico, Hong Kong, Australia, and New Zealand.

Dr. Ashley Austin

Ashley Austin, PhD, LCSW is a Professor of Social Work at Barry University. Her research and practice expertise revolves primarily around promoting the health and well-being of transgender and gender diverse children, teens, and adults through clinical practice rooted in an affirmative stance. Dr. Austin is actively involved in research, training and consulting associated with implementing affirmative interventions across a wide range of sites both nationally and internationally.
