Participants will learn about the effects of trauma on psychosocial development, identity, coping, and functioning. Participants will be introduced to SAMHSA’s guiding principles of TIC. Mental health practitioners and social service professionals will learn to view LGBTQ+ presenting problems through the lens of trauma and implement specific practical skills and trauma-informed practices across a variety of roles when working with LGBTQ+. Participants will learn about the identity-specific issues including minority stressors and experiences of gender dysphoria can be traumagenic for LGBTQ+ clients. Trauma informed strategies for supporting and affirming LGBTQ+ clients’ identities, experiences, and clinical needs will be explored.
This course meets criteria for required Ethics CEUS for FS ch. 491 licensees.
