The Honors Program at Barry is designed to challenge, enrich, and prepare especially motivated students to pursue their fullest potential. By participating in a rigorous curriculum rounded out by an array of edifying and interactive events, students explore crucial issues that we face in our daily lives. Students are given the space for discussion and debate and the opportunity to learn from experts in their fields. The Office of Financial Aid can assist with determining eligibility for the Honors Program.

The Monsignor William Barry Memorial Library is located in the center of the beautiful Miami Shores campus of Barry University. The Library is named in loving memory of Monsignor William Barry, one of the founders of Barry University and an inspirational figure in the Catholic Church within the Archdiocese of Miami. The extensive Library research collections include more than 950,000 physical items, over 40,000 print and on-line journal subscriptions, and several thousand on-line books and streaming video resources.

Distance Education

We are an NCAA Division II school and a member of the Sunshine State Conference with 12 varsity teams, including men's baseball, basketball, golf, soccer and tennis; and women's basketball, golf, rowing, soccer, softball, tennis and volleyball. So far, we've won 24 NCAA championships, had 338 All-Americans, 413 Scholar All-Americans, and nine NCAA "Women of the Year" finalists, the most of any Division II school. Not bad at all, but we're going for more.

Effective July 1, 2020, new US Department of Education regulations, 34 CFR 668.43 (a) (5) (v) and 34 CFR 668.43 (c) require disclosures by institutions regarding educational requirements for programs leading to professional licensure or certification, regardless of modality. 34 CFR 668.43(a)(5)(v) requires an institution to disclose whether programs leading to professional licensure or certification meet each state's educational requirements. At Barry University, this direct notification (typically by email or letter) occurs prior to the students' enrollment in the program for prospective students and for current students upon receipt of information from the student that his or her location has changed to another State.

Barry University offers a variety of academic programs that academically prepare graduates to sit for professional licensure or certification in the State of Florida. Since requirements may vary from state to state, the information below may help you determine if the Barry program meets the licensure or certification requirements in your state.

Undergraduate Programs

  • Bachelor of Science in Education (all specializations)
  • The Bachelor of Science in Education program (all specializations) are approved by the Florida Department of Education as an educator preparation program.
  • The Bachelor of Science in Education with a Specialization in Infancy through Early Childhood program meets the educational requirements to apply for a Professional Florida Educator's Certificate in Pre-K/Primary Education (Age 3 – Grade 3) with ESOL and Reading Endorsements.
  • The Bachelor of Science in Education with a Specialization in Early and Middle Childhood program meets the educational requirements to apply for a Professional Florida Educator's Certificate in Elementary Education (K - 6) with ESOL and Reading Endorsements.
  • The Bachelor of Science in Education with a Specialization in Special Education program meets the educational requirements to apply for a Professional Florida Educator's Certificate in Exceptional Student Education (K - 12) with ESOL and Reading Endorsements.

  • Master of Science and Specialist degrees in Educational Leadership
  • The ‘state-approved’ tracks of the Master of Science and Specialist degrees in Educational Leadership programs are approved by the Florida Department of Education. These programs are designed for prospective students who already have teaching certification, so it does not meet initial teaching licensure requirements in Florida or any other state. However, graduates are eligible to add State of Florida Educational Leadership Certification.

  • The DPM program meets educational degree requirements to apply for a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine license in Florida and every other state. Applicants must also complete approved post-graduate medical training to qualify for licensure.
