Knowledge & Truth Award Dr. Juliet King, MS 1994

Dr. Juliet King, MS 1994

Juliet King has had an illustrious career in South Florida as a teacher, union steward, administrator and community leader. In 1969, King began teaching in Miami-Dade County public schools. Eventually she transferred to an inner-city school with a Title I Montessori Program and earned her MS in Elementary/Montessori from Barry University.  A firm believer in education, King holds several degrees and certifications, including an MS in Elementary Education from Florida International University and an EdD from Lynn University.

In 1998, King co-created Coral Reef Montessori Academy (CRMA), Florida’s first Montessori charter school and presently one of only 19 public Montessori schools in the nation with dual accreditation for preK-3 through 8th grade. The school’s success has been highlighted in prestigious local, national and Montessori publications. In 2022, King became the first African American to be named an American Montessori Society Living Legacy, one of the highest awards given by the American Montessori Society.

King is involved with many educational, charitable, community and civil rights organizations. These include being a lifetime member of the NAACP, which recognized her with the Community Service Award from the South Dade Chapter in 1985, and a lifetime member of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, where she served as a chapter president.

For her exemplary contributions, King was honored with a proclamation from the Miami-Dade County Office of the Mayor and Board of County Commissioners proclaiming June18, 2022, as Dr. Juliet King Day.
