Biography

Zulaima Sarmiento is an accomplished educational leader with three decades of experience in Miami-Dade County Public Schools. She currently serves as Assistant Principal at iPrep Academy, a nationally recognized magnet school known for its innovative, technology-driven and global approach to education. Throughout her career, Zulaima has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to academic excellence, equity, and expanding access to high-quality educational opportunities for all students.

With more than 20 years of experience in educational leadership, Zulaima has served in a wide range of roles across the district. As a Curriculum Support Specialist for five years, she collaborated with over 80 schools to strengthen instructional practices and drive academic achievement. She went on to serve as an Instructional Supervisor at the regional level for three years, providing schools with strategic support in curriculum alignment, professional development, data analysis, and the School Improvement Process. Her leadership as a school administrator extends across all grade levels - elementary, middle, and high school, including at the nationally acclaimed Design and Architecture Senior High (DASH), consistently ranked among the top high schools in the country.

Zulaima’s unique blend of instructional insight and operational expertise is highlighted by her academic background in industrial engineering and educational leadership. She earned her Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Barry University in 2002, further grounding her ability to lead schools and support educators effectively.

She has played a vital role in driving district-wide initiatives, supporting career and technical education programs, and helping shape equitable learning environments that foster academic, emotional, and social growth.

Zulaima brings a strategic mindset, a collaborative spirit, and a deep understanding of the education landscape. Her dedication to lifelong learning, post-secondary access, and student-centered practices continues to guide her work in empowering students and educators alike.
