Biography

Dr. Schoffstall serves as the Program Director of Barry University's Biomedical Sciences (BMS) and as a professor in the Clinical Laboratory Sciences (CLB) programs. Dr. Schoffstall is licensed as a Clinical Laboratory Supervisor in the State of Florida and holds Board Certification as a Medical Technologist with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP). Dr. Schoffstall has 20 years of clinical laboratory experience working in various hospital and clinic laboratories. After earning her Ph.D. in Molecular Biophysics from Florida State University in 2006, Dr. Schoffstall held a postdoctoral research position at the Institute of Molecular Biophysics and the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory in the Fajer Lab in Tallahassee Florida. She began her tenure at Barry University in August of 2007 as Assistant Professor of Biology. Since 2013, Dr. Schoffstall has served as Barry University’s representative for Life Sciences South Florida, and was subsequently appointed to the LSSF Executive Committee, for which she is a current member. At a national level, Dr. Schoffstall has served as an Associate Member of the Minority Affairs Committee of the American Society for Cell Biology, and is currently a Full Member of the Membership Committee of the American Society for Cell Biology. She has served as Secretary for the Barry University local chapter of the Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society and is currently an active member. She is a current editorial board member for the journal Frontiers (Physiology and Microbiology). She has served the Clinical Laboratory Sciences programs at Barry University as a member of the Clinical Laboratory Sciences Programs Advisory Committee since 2010. She served as the NAACLS-approved Director for the Medical Technology degree program from 2013-2015, and again since 2020. She has been highly active in academic affairs and faculty governance at Barry University for 15 years. Dr. Schoffstall served as the Assistant Chair of the Biology Department at Barry University from 2014-2019, and as the Chair of the Biology Department from 2019-2022. Whether mentoring students in scientific research projects or teaching courses that prepare students for professional graduate programs or clinical careers, Dr. Schoffstall is committed to developing curricula for student success so that students can ultimately achieve their career goals.
