Areas of Interest
Dr. Alfarone's research interests fall under the two broad philosophical branches of Metaphysics and Ethics. In the first instance, in line with his doctoral research, is the ongoing interest concerning the relationship between axiology and agathology as they relate to ens. In the second instance, his ethical curiosity includes questions in the theory of human action and the specific question of the cause of moral evil with an emphasis on its first cause, and its significance in understanding human nature and its relationship to malum. In addition to the above mentioned interests, Dr. Alfarone's teaching experience in the area of World Religions has given impetus to a deepening interest in the philosophical principles grounding the Western Religious Traditions, such as, Christianity, Judaism, and Islam, as well as certain Eastern Religious Traditions, particularly Hinduism.
Biography
Dr. Charles J. Alfarone joined the Theology and Philosophy Department at Barry University in the Fall of 2011. Alfarone earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Philosophy from St. John's University, Queens, New York., and his Licenza di Filosofia and Dottorato di Filosofia from the Pontificia Università della Santa Croce, Rome, Italy.
Area of Specialization: Classical Metaphysics, Medieval Philosophy, and Philosophy of the Human Person.
Area of Competence: History of Philosophy, Ancient Philosophy, Logic, Aesthetics, and Ethics.
