Biography
Corvette V Yacoob is the Director of the Nurse Practitioner Specialization program at Barry University College of Nursing and Health Sciences. She initially obtained her diploma in nursing at George Brown College in Toronto, Canada in 1979. She then continued her nursing education by obtaining a BSN in 1997 and an MSN in 2002 as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She completed her doctoral degree as a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in 2011 in the inaugural DNP program from Barry University. She is board certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and a current member of the prestigious nursing society "Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Society" (STTI) and the Florida Nurses Association (FNA). With over 30 years of clinical experience, working in primary care, infertility medicine, women's health, college health medicine and as a faculty educator, her clinical experience includes working with the underprivileged, uninsured, and individuals with disabilities ranging in age from infancy to adulthood. Her work experience has been a culmination of experience gained not only here in the United States, but also in the Canadian health care system and working with various volunteer groups both locally and internationally. Dr. Yacoob's scholarly works include podium presentations to the Jamaican Nurses Association, poster presentations to the Florida Nurses Association Miami Chapter, and STTI Lambda Chi Chapter. Mia Media recently honored her in Legacy magazine as one of South Florida's Top Black Educators of 2018. As a parent, she served on the PTA board of Coral Cove Elementary in Miramar Florida as well as coordinated and administered health screenings for the students at the school. As Director, she will continue to promote, encourage, and support the faculty and students in meeting their professional needs and goals in the advanced practice setting. Nursing has been a life-long learning experience for her. The individuals that she has cared for have helped her to become the person she is today.
