Biography

Craig A. Mertler, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor and has been an educator for 39 years, 29 of those in higher education, and 12 as an administrator. He teaches courses focused on the application of action research to promote educator empowerment, school improvement, and job-embedded professional development, and also teaches educational research methods and quantitative methods. He has served as the research methodology expert on more than 140 doctoral dissertations and Masters's theses.

Dr. Mertler is the author of 32 books, 9 invited book chapters, 25 refereed journal articles, and 3 novels. His books have been translated into Chinese, Arabic, and Greek. He has also presented more than 40 research papers at regional, national, and international professional meetings, has delivered more than 25 keynote and invited addresses, and has consulted with numerous schools, districts, and universities on classroom-based action research and on the broad topic of classroom assessment.

He has numerous service activities to his credit, including having served as Program Chair and President of the Mid-Western Educational Research Association (MWERA) and as the Chair of the Action Research Special Interest Group (SIG) of the American Educational Research Association (AERA). He serves on the Senior Editorial Board of Practical Assessment, Research, and Evaluation and has served as a manuscript reviewer for more than 20 other journals.

Dr. Mertler was named the 2023 Educational Researcher of the Year by the Florida Educational Research Association.
