Biography

MD. Physician, Internal Medicine Residency at Columbia University, Morristown Memorial Hospital. Cardiology. Post- Doctoral Training Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Medical Center and at New York Medical College School of Medicine.

Currently and for the past ten years, Dr. Herrera has been Director of the Miami Cardiac and Vascular Institute, Research and Outcomes at Baptist Health South Florida a 12 hospitals healthcare system with over 28,000 employees and market dominance in South Florida.

He has more than 30 years of experience in Clinical Research, Pharmaceutical Drug Development, Health Management and Hospital Administration. He has held positions as Project Director of Research at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, Office of Clinical Trials, a 2,800 beds hospital affiliated with two Ivy medical school institutions, Columbia University and Weill Cornell Medical College. Also as Chief of Healthcare Administration at Femwell, one of the largest physician’s owned group healthcare management clinical practices in Florida with more than 400 physicians and billions of dollars in revenue. Chief Research Officer at Miami Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Herrera has served as senior leader for large multinational companies including Bayer Pharmaceuticals, Bristol Myers Squibb, Novartis and Sanofi; as well as large Clinical Research Organizations like ICON. His academic experience includes holding clinical research positions at Columbia University Hospitals in New York City: Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center and St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital Center, and for the Albert Einstein College of Medicine at the Beth Israel Medical Center in Manhattan, New York.

Dr. Herrera is also Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at The Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, School of Medicine, Department of Medical and Health Sciences Research of Florida International University. Dr. Herrera has published numerous publications in prestigious peer reviewed journals and is actively ongoing presenting in numerous international medical research conferences including ENCORE in Seoul, Korea and ISET in Miami Florida. Dr. Herrera has been teaching at Barry University for more than 10 years at the graduate level.
