Biography

Valerie G. M. Scott, Ph.D., is the Experiential Learning Coordinator in the Center for Community Service Initiatives and an adjunct faculty member in the Adrian Dominican School of Education. She coauthored a chapter in Experiential Learning in Higher Education (Information Age, 2021) and is actively involved in community service organizations specifically focused on current critical social justice issues of local and global concern. Prior to working in higher education, she spent 35 years as an educator and administrator in public school districts in the United States and Germany. While her research interests have focused on innovative pedagogical practices and critical questions of equity for individuals with disabilities, Dr. Scott is moving deeper into research areas that include intersectional perspectives on disability such as race, ethnicity, gender, language, and immigration status, as well as critical questions of equity for all individuals, regardless of diversity or disability status. In addition to her ongoing research, teaching, advising, and mentoring, she is writing her first book, a compilation of real-life stories describing the life experiences of individuals and families living with the reality of high-functioning autism.
