Biography
Joel Collazo MD, PhD, MS was born in Havana, Cuba, and graduated from the Instituto Superior de Ciencias Medicas de La Habana in 1994, receiving the degree of Medical Doctor. After graduation, Dr. Collazo taught Histology to medical and nursing students as part of his specialization in Histology from 1994 to 1997. In 1998 he moved to Lima, Peru where he practiced medicine in urban and rural areas of Lima and taught basic Pathology and Epidemiology to nursing students. Dr. Collazo also worked as invited faculty of the School of Public Health of Lima, responsible for seminars and lectures on Epidemiology. Upon his arrival to the United States, he continued developing his medical teaching career at Miami-Dade College in 2009 in charge of Anatomy & Physiology, and general Biology. He has also taught other subjects in different private colleges and became an adjunct faculty of Broward College in 2015. Dr. Collazo became part of the faculty of the Biomedical Sciences Program at Barry University in August 2016 as an adjunct faculty member teaching Histology and Medical Microbiology during the fall of 2016. In January 2017, Dr. Collazo became an Assistant Professor in the BMS program, teaching Histology and other subjects (Epidemiology, Oral Pathology, Cancer Biology, Medical Microbiology, Pathology, and Human Embryology). In 2022 he was appointed Assistant Program Director of the BMS program. Starting in the fall of 2024, Dr. Collazo resumed his role as Adjunct Faculty. Dr. Collazo has a Master's Degree in Clinical Biology with specialization in Laboratory Management from Barry University (2012-2014) and obtained a PhD in Public Health specializing in Epidemiology at Walden University.
