
Biography
Dr. Kemerer received his Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Masters of Accountancy and PhD. in Business with a major in Accounting from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech).
He is licensed as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in Florida and holds the professional credentials of Certified Management Accountant (CMA) and is also Certified in Financial Management (CFM). Teaching since 1985, Dr. Kemerer has taught every typical undergraduate course (financial accounting, managerial accounting, cost accounting, auditing, individual taxation, computer accounting, accounting information systems, and advanced accounting) and many graduate accounting courses (governmental/non-profit, financial accounting theory, international accounting, contemporary theory and research, and advanced managerial accounting).
He highly values service-learning as a teaching and learning strategy that integrates meaningful community service with coursework and critical reflection to enrich the learning experience, foster civic responsibility, and strengthen communities. He employs service-learning in his Federal Income Tax course by training and supervising students serving at the Barry University-Miami Shores Campus Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, where low to moderate income taxpayers have their taxes prepared by IRS-certified volunteers for free.
Dr. Kemerer has a variety of research interests including financial reporting and analysis, information quality, and ethics. His research has been published in peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of Business and Economic Perspectives, the Journal of the International Academy of Case Studies, the Academy of Accounting and Financial Studies Journal, the American Journal of Business Research, and in Strategic Finance.
