Mark A. Summers has been a Professor of Law at Barry University School of Law since 2003. Professor Summers received his BA (cum laude) from Washington & Jefferson College in 1970; his JD (Order of the Coif) from West Virginia University College of Law in 1974; and his LLM (with honors) in international law from Cambridge University, Cambridge, England, in 1992. Professor Summers was a charter member of the faculty at Florida Coastal School of Law, where he taught from 1996-2003, and a Visiting Associate Professor of Law at West Virginia University College of Law (1994-95). He taught at the Comparative Law Institute of the University of Paris (1992-94) and has, on several occasions, been a Visiting Professor at Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas, Lithuania. In 1997 and 1998, Professor Summers served as a legal expert assigned to the Office of the Prosecutor for the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia. In the Spring of 2011, he was a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Zagreb in Zagreb, Croatia. He was an Assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York from 1977-1985 and a partner with the firm Hoffman & Pollok in New York City from 1985-1991, where he specialized in federal criminal defense and appellate cases. Professor Summers now specializes in international criminal law, which is the subject of most of his scholarship. In addition, he regularly teaches evidence, criminal procedure, and criminal law.
