Biography
Born in Havana, Cuba, Dr. Cires completed her graduate studies at the Instituto Superior de Ciencias Medicas de La Habana, University of Havana, graduating as a Doctor in Medicine in 1976. After practicing general medicine, she completed her residency in Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutic at the Cardiovascular Institute and the Department of Clinical Pharmacology of Hospital General Calixto Garcia in Havana, Cuba. Dr. Cires taught pharmacology and therapeutic, physiology, ethics & deontology, pharmacoepidemiology, epidemiology for medical and nursing students from 1976 to 1996 at the Instituto Superior de Ciencias Medicas de La Habana. She received training in Drug Selection Program and a master’s degree in Pharmacoepidemiology at the Institute Catalan of Pharmacology, Barcelona, Spain (1994-1996). Dr. Cires was a cofounder of the Cuban Pharmacoepidemiology Development Center participating in educational and technical advising programs in pharmacoepidemiology at the Ministry of Public Health in the Bahamas, Bolivia, Colombia, and Cuba. She was an expert of the Cuban National Formulary (1996 to 2008). She joined the teaching staff at the Cuban National School of Public Health (1998-2008). She participated in the editorial committee of the Cuban therapeutic guide for primary healthcare doctor (1995 first Ed.; 2010 second Ed.) and the Cuban Therapeutic Formulary (2003). Since her arrival to the USA in 2008, Dr. Cires has taught anatomy, physiology, microbiology, and epidemiology in different undergraduate and graduate programs for nursing at Dade Medical College, Universal Career School, Florida Career College, Miami Dade College (physician assistant program), and Atlantis University (master program). She is BLS certified instructor. She has a master’s degree in clinical biology with specialization in Laboratory Management from Barry University (2012-2014) and is currently pursuing a PhD in Public Health with specialization in Epidemiology at Walden University. Since January 2020, Dr. Cires became part of the faculty of the Biomedical Sciences Program at Barry University as an adjunct Laboratory Faculty teaching Histology, Physiology, and Anatomy.
