
Biography
Dr. Cizek joined the Barry faculty in 2022 and is Assistant Professor of Old Testament and Director of the Doctor of Ministry program. He earned the Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy at the University of Wisconsin—Madison, the Master of Divinity at Duke Divinity School, and the Ph.D. in Religious Studies, specializing in Judaism and Christianity in Antiquity, at Marquette University.
Cizek’s research and publications focus on the ethical functions of scripture, especially the use of Pentateuchal laws in Jewish antiquity. He teaches Barry’s introductory theology course, Theology 201: Faith, Belief, and Traditions, as well as undergraduate and graduate courses on the Old Testament and its reception, especially in modern ecclesial and socio-political contexts, both at institutional and popular levels.
The Catholic Biblical Association of America awarded Cizek the Emerging Scholars Fellowship in Old Testament in 2020.
