Biography
Dr. Paul Czerwonka was born and raised in northern New Jersey, where he began his journey in healthcare and completed his registered nurse training at the County College of Morris. His nursing career includes a diverse range of experiences, incorporating roles as an Intensive Care Nurse, Emergency Room Charge Nurse, Mobile Intensive Care Nurse/Paramedic, and Flight Nurse. Driven by a strong interest in computer technology, Dr. Czerwonka pursued a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems from Kansas State University in 2000, showcasing his commitment to staying at the forefront of healthcare information technology. After 19 years of enriching professional nursing practice, he decided to pursue advanced practice education in nurse anesthesia. In 2009, Dr. Czerwonka earned his Master of Science from Barry University. He went on to practice nurse anesthesiology within the Orlando Health System and at various outpatient surgery centers in the greater Orlando area. In 2019, Dr. Czerwonka took on a new role as an appointed clinical faculty member at the University of Colorado School of Medicine - Anschutz Medical Center, combining his extensive clinical expertise with a commitment to clinical education. While residing in Colorado, he completed his Doctor of Nursing Practice in Anesthesiology at Barry University in 2023. Dr. Czerwonka’s dedication to education is evident in his role as a preceptor for student nurse anesthetists and other allied healthcare professionals, imparting his knowledge in clinical anesthesia care and advanced airway management techniques. His research interests reflect a forward-thinking approach to healthcare, encompassing integrating technology and artificial intelligence into anesthesia care, the incorporation of the AACN’s new Essentials for Professional Nursing Education into Nurse Anesthesiology curricula, and enhancing interdisciplinary communication in the surgical suite. His passion for interprofessional collaboration and a love for teaching shines through as he embarks on a new chapter as a faculty member at Barry University, contributing to training the next generation of nurse anesthesiologists.
