Biography
Philippa Chin joined Barry University as an Assistant Professor, and the Marriage, Couples, and Family Counseling Program Coordinator in 2023. She holds a BA in History from the University of the West Indies (Jamaica), a M.Ed. in Couples, Marriage, and Family Counseling, and a Ph.D. in Counselor Education from William & Mary (Virginia). She is a licensed professional counselor (LPC), a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT) and a national certified counselor (NCC). She was previously a site supervisor at a college family counseling educational clinic and works as a therapist at a rural private practice. Her clinical experience includes leading outpatient drug rehabilitation groups, trauma focused therapy, co-parenting, couples, and family therapy. Dr. Chin is an editorial board member of The Family Journal, the official journal of the International Association of Marriage and Family Counselors (IAMFC). Her research interests include exploring the development of ethnic and racial identity (ERI), perimenopausal health outcomes, international perspectives in counseling, and social justice within counselor education.
