Biography
Dr. Peterson joined the faculty of Barry University in 2019 and is currently program director of the Educational Leadership Program. Prior to the faculty appointment, Dr. Peterson provided leadership as a high school principal while also working as a professor of practice at several regional and national universities
Dr. Peterson is a licensed principal and experienced educational leader in public and private schools with over thirty-five years of experience as a principal, assistant principal, athletic director, instructional coach, department chairperson and classroom teacher/leader/advisor.
As the principal of Eastview High School (Apple Valley Mn.), a large suburban thriving professional learning community, the school was continuously provided state and national recognition as an ACT Exemplary School, one of America’s Top High Schools by the Washington Post, Newsweek and was named by US News and World Report as the Top Comprehensive High School in the State of Minnesota. The Eastview professional learning community earned the highest multiple measurements rating and focus rating in the state of Minnesota for proficiency, growth, achievement gap reduction, and graduation rate. Peterson had the unique opportunity to assist in the design and construction of Eastview High Schools 330,000 square foot facility and the 200-acre campus as well as the hiring of all 230 faculty and staff and the development of academic programming and learning community processes.
As an influential educational leader at the K-12 and university levels, Dr. Peterson was inducted into the Professional Educators Hall of Fame at Bemidji State University for his state, regional and national leadership and educational impact. Peterson was also recently provided the Achievement Award for Distinguished Leadership and Service to the South Suburban Minnesota Conference of Schools.
Dr. Peterson has been deeply engaged in the data driven continuous improvement process to enhance learning and educational culture in learning communities, to create educational equity and quality personal development and growth in students, faculty and administrative leadership teams. Peterson is available to facilitate or coordinate school site consulting, training, action research and principal executive coaching.
