Biography
Dr. Victor Romano serves as Vice Provost for Student Success & Undergraduate Studies and as an Associate Professor of Sociology at Barry University. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology/Anthropology from Florida International University before earning both his Master of Arts and Doctorate in Sociology from the University of Florida.
Dr. Romano's academic pursuits and scholarly contributions primarily revolve around the intricate dynamics of racial and ethnic relations, gender stratification, and the phenomenon of childlessness. Beyond academia, he actively engages in advocacy and community service. Dr. Romano holds the esteemed position of Chairperson at Hope, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to eradicating housing discrimination. Additionally, he serves as a member of the Florida State Advisory Board to the US Commission on Civil Rights, contributing his expertise to advance civil liberties and social justice initiatives. With a demonstrated commitment to upholding human rights, Dr. Romano has previously held the positions of member and Chair of the Miami-Dade County Commission on Human Rights.
Within Barry University, Dr. Romano plays a pivotal role in fostering academic excellence and student achievement. As Vice Provost, he oversees several key academic units, including the Center for Academic Success and Advising (CASA), the Office of Dual Enrollment, the Monsignor William Barry Memorial Library, the Honors Program, and the Office of Articulation & Academic Agreements. Moreover, he actively oversees the Undergraduate Studies Council and co-Chairs the Student Success Committee, ensuring that the institution remains steadfast in its commitment to nurturing the holistic development and success of its students.
