Biography

I decided on a STEM major at Barry University because there are many opportunities to make a difference in the world of medicine. As I grew older, I was excited to be offered a place within a STEM program through science and mathematics. In my high school biology class, I was fascinated with the study of genetics and the factors that contribute to genetic disorders. It eventually turned into a passion for learning more about neurological disorders caused by genetics. The experience of being active in a laboratory and working with professors and my peers is rewarding. I am gaining knowledge which contributes to the world of STEM. The most exciting STEM-related topic that I’ve learned is how environmental changes impact global health. In particular, how climate change influences the health of pregnant women and the likelihood of children developing birth defects. In ten years, I would love to be working closely with medical professionals within the field of neurology and hopefully working in a laboratory studying more factors that affect children with neurological disorders.
