Why did you choose Barry?

After getting better acquainted with the mission of the Stamps Scholars Program and the Core Commitments of Barry University, it turns out the values that underlie my lifestyle are closely intertwined with those that are appreciated and encouraged at Barry. Since childhood, I’ve always liked helping my acquaintances, friends, and parents, and over time, I discovered volunteering–an opportunity to help more people. Through communication and collaboration with diverse people, I am constantly improving my social skills to the point that my volunteering efforts are not simply beneficial to others, but to me as well.

Why I am a student ambassador

I wanted to become a student ambassador as soon as I found out that there is such a position on campus because I have always dreamed of doing something like this while pursuing my education at Barry. I will be able to help other people learn more about Barry University while developing my social and presentational skills, this experience will definitely help me to grow as a person.

Barry radio assistant Advice you would give your high school self now that you are a Barry buccaneer?

Dream big and follow your heart, take action and don’t listen to what others are telling you. Anything is possible.

Tips for someone searching for the right college?

College search is something you should do really precisely because choosing a school that fits you is essential to your academic and future career success. You should not rely on trends and general assumptions when choosing a school, but instead you should look for something that would matter specifically to you, like a size, location, diversity, presented majors, mission and values of the universities etc. If you like everything it means you found the right school for you.

Service opportunity you’ve participated in?

I volunteered at the American Center in Moscow, whose mission is to bring American and Russian cultures closer together. My main motivation is the fact that I contribute to the cultural exchange between the people of the US and Russia, countries with rich but unique cultures. Through this experience, I met many new people and gained new responsibilities; often taking on a leadership role and presenting in front of large audiences. I ran my own events, shared useful information with people about the interaction of our cultures, and even organized an English-speaking forum. I took an active part in organizing international learning events held in collaboration between the American Center and other notable Russian charitable organizations.

I volunteered for EducationUSA Russia, whose mission is to spread information about higher education opportunities in the US. I helped organize many university events and represented one of the American universities by answering questions from attendees. During the pandemic, I participated in online events as a speaker, sharing my experience of applying to universities in the US. Representatives of EducationUSA Russia often asked me to record short videos with practical tips, which were then posted on the official YouTube channel–my dream became a reality, I got the opportunity to help a huge number of people. I'm very impressed that my love of volunteering is shared by the ideas of Barry Stamps Scholarship. My experiences help me within the walls of Barry University, where I will have many more opportunities to contribute to the development and preservation of different cultures.

What are your future plans?

I want to continue working in the admissions office while pursuing my education at Barry and see where it takes me, preferably I will be able to climb the career ladder and become an admission counselor one day. Maybe I could go for masters at Barry if there will be an opportunity to get it for free while working for admissions or any other department. But ultimately, I want to be a business owner. Let’s see how it all turns out.
