Coursework + Collaborative Service + Critical Reflection = Service-Learning
Students: As part of some courses you are taking, you may be required to provide service to the community, most often through community partner organizations. You will reflect on your service experience in the context of the coursework. Service-learning opportunities are currently organized within the modules outlined below.

An increasing number of courses carry the service-learning designation in the catalog and course schedule. The designation is indicated on your official transcript.
FOOD SECURITY
- Support local, national, and international efforts to address food insecurity and end hunger
- Help maintain urban gardens
- Sort and pack food supplies for distribution
YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
- Tutor elementary and middle-grades students
- Mentor community youth
- Host enrichment activities for community youth
FAIR FOOD
- Support the Coalition of Immokalee Workers and Student/Farmworker Alliance
- Help advance the goals of the Fair Food Program
PEOPLE POWER
- Support inter-faith community organizing for Miami-Dade's largest grassroots assembly
- Help seek commitments for affordable housing, community identification, and policing from local policymakers
ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE
- Contribute to environmental sustainability projects, such as beach clean-ups and community gardening
- Advocate environmental health improvement by contributing to environmental justice campaigns and promoting relevant policies
RACIAL JUSTICE
- Work with community partners to foster education and dialogue about racial violence and inequity
- Engage in community organizing to stop the criminalization of poverty and become an advocate of criminal justice reform (to stop jail expansion, cash bail, and unnecessary arrests)
