The School of Law offers the Juris Doctor (JD) degree. All students in the program must complete 90 semester-hours of study in areas that are essential to the understanding and practice of law.

Barry University combines traditional and innovative teaching methods to provide a dynamic, professional program. The JD curriculum is designed to develop students' analytical ability, communication skills, and understanding of the codes of professional responsibility and ethics that are central to the practice of law. 

The faculty utilizes a variety of teaching methods, including simulations and role-playing. Courses designed to develop and refine writing abilities are required. Seminars and advanced courses provide close interaction with faculty.

Graduation Requirements

The LL.M. is a post-graduate course in law of lawyers who have completed their first law degree in another country. The required 24 hours of coursework for the Barry Law program spans one academic year from August to May, and up to fifteen credits may be transferred into the Barry Law J.D. program, based on a student's performance in the LL.M. program.

This is a residential program. LL.M. students live in Orlando, go to class with students from the United States, study in the library, and experience daily life on and off the campus. Upon graduation from the program, the Dwayne O. Andreas School of Law LL.M. graduate will have studied law in English, will know the content of United States law and will form ideas about the daily life and culture of the country based on their personal experience.

Each year the Barry Law Admissions Committee considers about 2,000 applications for 250 to 280 seats available in the entering class. We follow a rolling admissions policy, with a priority deadline of May 1 for Fall admission and November 15 for Spring admission. Applications received after the deadline will be reviewed on a space-available basis.

The basic requirements to apply to Barry Law include completing the admissions application electronically (LSAC.org), registering with the Credential Assembly Service (CAS), one letter of recommendation, and attaching a personal statement indicating your interest in the study or practice of law. Transfer students will address the reason for transferring as the subject of the personal statement.

While Barry University School of Law does not offer on-campus housing, the link below provides a list of apartments in the area in various price ranges as recommended by our current students, though not specifically endorsed by Barry Law.

Admitted students who pay the $200 non-refundable seat deposit will have full access to this website. Within this forum, incoming students can meet one another and discuss apartment and other housing options they have found. Entering students may also search for potential roommates via this forum as well.

Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This application may be completed online at Federal Student Aid - FAFSA Application. Barry University School of Law's Title IV Federal school code (E00993) should be indicated in section six of the FAFSA.

Our process is streamlined with minimal requirements. Students are encouraged to talk with a staff member from the Office of Student Financial Services in order to determine the best financing options for their circumstances. The priority deadline for completing the FAFSA is April 15th prior to the Fall term.

Graduate education represents a significant investment of personal and financial aid resources; early planning is essential to meeting your educational costs.

Several student financial aid programs are available at Barry University School of Law. All admitted students will automatically be considered for Barry University School of Law academic scholarships and need-based grants. However, like most law schools, long-term low interest loans are the major source in financing your legal education. The major loan program that our students will be eligible for is the Federal Direct Loans (unsubsidized and Graduate plus).

The Cost of Education is the total of tuition plus an estimate of living expenses you can expect to incur while attending Barry Law School. The total of scholarship and loan funds that you receive can be no more than the total Cost of Education.

The estimate for living expenses is based on a combination of factors: a survey of Barry Law students; a survey of providers, such as apartment complexes; and a comparison of our estimates with other institutions in the area and other law schools. 

The transportation allowance is calculated at the IRS reimbursement rate and includes gasoline and normal upkeep including tire replacement. Personal/Miscellaneous allowance includes a health insurance component equal to the annual premium for the policy that can be purchased through Barry.

Whether or not this estimate provides sufficiently for you will largely depend on choices you make. Since available funding has limitations, we advise you to consider using cost-cutting tactics.
