
Biography
CAPT Jean-Pierre DeBarros is a commissioned officer within the U.S. Public Health Service with over 25 years of active-duty service. Jean-Pierre has served on the Barry U. Alumni Board of Directors (ABOD) since 2018, initially serving on the Mentorship Committee before committing himself to the ABOD Executive Committee.
CAPT DeBarros brings a wealth of experience working with multiple federal agencies, such as the U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, U.S. Department of State, and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. His work has taken him to five of seven continents, giving him the opportunity to strengthen his five spoken languages.
Jean-Pierre serves as an instructor for the Defense Institute of Medical Operations (DIMO) responsible for training partner nations on various disaster preparedness and response topics.
CDR DeBarros has earned many accolades in his professional career including recognition from the American Academy of Medical Administrators, by being selected as the recipient of the 2006 YC Parris Young Federal Healthcare Executive of the Year award. In 2010, he was bestowed the US Public Health Service’s Health Administration Professional Advisory Group’s Excellence Award for his accomplishments in the field of healthcare administration. Jean-Pierre is highly engaged with the local academic community and routinely speaks to students on matters related to the field of healthcare and professional/career development.
