Student Health Services

Student Health Services

Student Health Services is a primary care center offering health care to registered students while attending classes at Barry University. It is conveniently located on the first floor of the R. Kirk Landon Student Union building, in Suite 104, on Barry University’s main campus in Miami Shores.

Student Health Services is here to remove health related barriers to our students’ academic success. This is achieved by providing access to primary care with a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner, offsite physician referrals, access to affordable ACA compliant insurance plans and health education and programming

Student Health Services assists the Barry community as the primary advocate for the health of Barry University students by integrating the critical role of college health into the university mission. • Accessing health care can be challenging for busy college students. Class schedules, work commitments, limited transportation, difficulty finding a nearby provider with prompt availability, or the cost of an office visit can all create barriers. In addition, many out-of-state and international insurance plans do not offer coverage in South Florida, often leading to treatment delays and high out-of-pocket costs.

Barry Student Health Services makes quality care accessible on campus. We provide comprehensive primary care—from immunizations and pre-matriculation physicals to gynecological care—for all full-time undergraduate and graduate students. Students enrolled in the University’s student health insurance plan receive covered services at 100%. Those with private insurance are also welcome to use SHS; visits will be billed, and we will submit claims on their behalf. If the plan issues payment, it will be credited directly to the student’s school account.

To be seen, students must call SHS to schedule an appointment.

  • As a health care facility, we have an explicit responsibility to protect and preserve the confidentiality of all medical information resulting from the professional relationships with patients in Student Health Services. Confidential information contained in medical records and associated documents is restricted to authorized personnel. Patient information obtained from the Barry University SHS shall not be disclosed or released without explicit written authorization from the patient.

BarryU Smoke Free Campus

Barry University is committed to providing a safe, healthy and enjoyable learning, living and working environment.

On July 1, 2016, BarryU campuses became entirely tobacco and smoke free. Barry University prohibits smoking, including e-cigarettes or tobacco, vaping of tobacco, marijuana or any other substance than is used as inhalant. Use of any kind on all university owned, operated, leased, and/or controlled properties has been prohibited to maintain a healthy and safe environment for its faculty, staff, students, and visitors. Those who choose to smoke must do so off-campus at a minimum of 25 feet away from any entrance to Barry University.

By transitioning to a smoke-free environment across all our campuses, BarryU aims to enhance the overall health and well-being of our university community. This initiative creates a more appealing and enjoyable campus experience by eliminating smoking and tobacco products.
